Papillon is also knwn as Continental Toy Spaniel, is a breed of the spaniel type. It is the oldest
toy spaniels, The name was derives from its characteristic butterfly-like look of the long and
fringed hair on the ears.
Papillon Like many toy breeds, the enchanting dogs has been a favorite of European royals
for hundreds of years. Papillons were originally bred as charming and beautiful companions
for noblewomen. They appear in many portraits of long-ago queens and princesses painted
by Europe’s most famous artists. Papillons began as toy spaniels (they were once known as
Dwarf Spaniels), and their sporting-dog blood makes them highly trainable and more of an
athlete than most other toy dogs.
Appearance and behavior
Papillons are very intelligent and self-assured dogs that have a very easy time learning new
tricks. These dogs can be sociable with children and strangers, but are generally reserved
around new people. They can also be socialized to get along well with other pets, but care
should be taken with rambunctious pets or cats with claws, as they may injure them.

Although somewhat reserved around strangers, these are lovable, affectionate, boisterous
little dogs that are eager to learn.
Depending on how socialization was carried out, some Papillons may be jealous if their
owner's attention is diverted elsewhere. This is not usually the case, however. They generally
get along quite well with children and other household pets.
Regular thorough brushing is required. Any loose hairs in the ear passages should be
Papillons respond best to a gentle approach. Their willingness to learn makes training a fairly
simple process. They are intelligent and obedient.
